Should the mouse leave the confines of the Powerplay mat, it seamlessly switches to its capacious internal battery, which can withstand up to 24 hours of continuous use. Still, Logitech only guarantees charging on the surfaces included with mat and advises against using the mat on any conductive surface, as that could interfere with charging. Virtually any mouse pad is compatible with the Powerplay mat, as long as it isn't made of metal and can fit on top of the 11-by-13-inch mat. You could also slap your own mouse pad on top of the mat. The mat comes bundled with swappable finishes, so you can switch between soft, porous fabric or firm, smooth plastic.
The end result is seamless, constant wireless charging that happens even while you're using the mouse. The Powerplay mat is essentially a large flat antenna that constantly emits an alternating electromagnetic current that gets picked up by the receiver in the base of the mouse and transforms it into direct current to the battery.

This system emphasizes the benefits of a wireless peripheral, while retaining the high-end performance of a wired mouse, and earns our Editors' Choice award. Logitech wants to change that notion with its latest gaming mouse, the G903 Lightspeed, which is part of a $249.98 system that includes the Powerplay mousepad, allowing for constant charging and outright elimination of input latency. Wireless peripherals have faced an uphill battle in the gaming scene, often described as cumbersome, unreliable, and less precise than their wired counterparts.
